Some Jailbroken iPhone users in Australia have been the first to be infected by the very first iPhone worm. The origins of the worm appear to be from Australia, as they're the first to report problems, getting rickrolled, a famous Internet meme, except this changes the wallpaper to Rick Astley.

Any Jailbroken iPhone that have not changed their default password from ‘alpine' once installing SSH, are vulnerable to the worm. The worm is so far harmless, but after one user held an iPhone ransom for €5, the possibilities for a full wide spread attack against SSH Jailbroken iPhone's could be at serious risk.

Google has announced that they have signed an agreement to acquire AdMob, a mobile display advertising company based in San Mateo, CA.

Firefox 3.6 Beta 1, like every other browser, makes a claim to being "faster." We took Firefox and all the other latest browsers, put them on Windows 7, and ran them through our human-measured speed tests to vet the bragging.

We've done a good number of these tests now, and the methodology remains much the same here—testing how long it takes for browsers to start up and load pages, and how much memory is eaten up, from a user's perspective. We don't use a fancy multi-protocol benchmarking suite, mostly because each suite is subjective to a developers' preferences and recording errors.

The Intel P55 Express chipset snafu that caused iPhones to lose their syncing minds has now been remedied -- at least by one motherboard maker. Gigabyte has issued a BIOS update making things all hunky-dory between the phone and the mobo, putting your troubles to an end. The P55 is Intel's latest midrange chipset and orchestrates things for newer Core i5 / i7 machines. The other two P55 purveyors, ASUS and MSI, were also caught by the bug, and there are anecdotal reports of success with an ASUS BIOS update, but not official fixes as of yet. Given the competitive nature of this market, though, we'd be surprised if those two companies didn't quickly follow suit. All's well that ends well, right?

It's been awhile, but we've got ourselves a brand spanking new OS X update in the mix, 10.6.2 for Snow Leopard. So far the biggest change here seems to be fixing that nagging guest account deletion bug -- and thank goodness for that. As for whether or not it supports Intel Atom processors, last we heard this morning it wasn't going to be there, but we're gonna have wait and see now that it's officially hit the nets. Leopard users who haven't made the upgrade also get a gift today, in the form of a security update. 10.6.2 release notes after the break.

Update: We just installed it -- it took forever and a day on one of our machines, and sped by reasonably quick on another. Everything seems okay otherwise, how about you?

Microsoft Digital Forensics Tool Leaks Online

A secretive Microsoft utility called Computer Online Forensic Evidence Extractor (COFEE) has leaked online. An automated digital forensics tool for law-enforcement agencies, COFEE isn't available legally to individuals.

"COFEE brings together a number of common digital forensics capabilities into a fast, easy-to-use, automated tool for first responders. And COFEE is being provided—at no charge—to law enforcement around the world," a description of the tool reads.

"With COFEE, law-enforcement agencies without on-the-scene computer-forensics capabilities can now more easily, reliably, and cost-effectively collect volatile live evidence," the description continues. "An officer with even minimal computer experience can be tutored—in less than 10 minutes—to use a preconfigured COFEE device. This enables the officer to take advantage of the same common digital-forensics tools used by experts to gather important volatile evidence, while doing little more than simply inserting a USB device into the computer."

The New York Attorney General’s office today accused chip maker Intel of engaging in “a worldwide, systematic campaign of illegal conduct,” including paying kickbacks and threatening computer makers, and filed federal antitrust charges against it. (PDF of Complaint)
